“The education I received at Bauman provided all the skills, knowledge, and support I needed to not only heal myself but to start my own private practice, Food Therapy, where I now consult others on their own healing path.”

My nutrition journey began about seven years ago. Burned out, overweight, and chronically unhealthy from working my corporate job as a chemical engineer, I knew I needed a radical change in my life. My husband and I quit our desk jobs and took off on an 18-month backpacking adventure. This epic trip changed the course of my life forever.

During this incredible journey, I reclaimed my health in mind, body and spirit. I began to make the connection between what I ate and how I felt. While traveling through third world countries and partaking in various cultural styles of eating, I saw that not only what I ate but how I ate my food, my attitude about eating, and how my surrounding community supported my eating made a huge impact on my health and state of mind.

I returned from that trip with a new, empowered vision about eating and my life. Not wanting to go back to the disempowering lifestyle that I had I left behind, and wanting to use my love of cooking and newfound claim on my health, I started researching schools and soon came across Bauman College. I immediately enrolled in the Natural Chef program, and graduated in 2006. I then went on to complete the Nutrition Educator (2007) and Nutrition Consultant Programs (2008).

Attending Bauman College allowed me to put to use the changes I had already instigated in my life, and more importantly, it enabled me to help change others’ lives. The education I received at Bauman provided all the skills, knowledge, and support I needed to not only heal myself but to start my own private practice, Food Therapy, where I now consult others on their own healing path.

I feel that my time at Bauman prepared me to help a wide range of clients with many varying degrees and types of health concerns. My true passion is helping others that remind me of my prior self; those who are stressed out, suffering through corporate lifestyles that don’t serve them, and struggling with weight, emotional eating habits and depression.

Today, my practice also focuses on digestive health, food sensitivities, and detoxification. The part of my work I enjoy most is witnessing my clients’ successes. It really is amazing to see the healing power of whole foods firsthand, and to be able to coach clients through their own unique transformations. I have clients who once could not get out of bed in the morning and who were addicted to sugar and caffeine, now wake up with the vitality to take on the world!

In May 2009, I took my culinary skills to the streets and joined the budding grassroots movement of renegade street vendors who sell fresh homemade food to the urban San Francisco community. Sexy Soup Cart was inspired by the adventurous and enterprising nature of my local community in the Mission. Ever since, I’ve been supplementing my Food Therapy practice by selling wholesome homemade, organic, seasonal soups on the streets. I’ve been interviewed and photographed countless times and have gained a reputation as the Sexy Soup Lady. My nutrition education at Bauman was the start of this rich new life that I feel so inspired by every day.
