May 2010 Newsletter

Bauman College begins fall courses soon, training students to prepare healthy, healing foods and to work with people on healthy eating habits.

New enhanced Nutrition Consultant program starting Fall 2010!

Welcome to the special May edition of the Bauman College eNewsletter
Big Changes Ahead!

We have timed the May 2010 eNewsletter to coincide with the online publication of the Fall 2010 Bauman College Catalog. The new Fall 2010 Catalog is up online in a beautiful new full-color layout. We hope you are as excited as we are!

That’s not our only big news! Bauman College is proud to announce the launch of our new, enhanced, Nutrition Consultant certificate program. This 15-month program includes a 3-month supervised internship where students will work as a part of a health and nutrition education team to perform services in venues such as senior centers, health clubs, schools, and clinics. The Nutrition Consultant program is also available via self-paced Distance Learning.

Personally designed by Dr. Ed Bauman,
this Nutrition Consultant program is a response to the job market’s demand for highly-trained nutrition consultants. The 3-month supervised internship means that Bauman College Nutrition Consultant graduates will be job-ready and able to demonstrate to prospective employers that they are sufficiently trained and certified to work in salaried positions in the preventative healthcare field. With this internship, our graduates will also feel more comfortable should they choose to establish their own private practice.

Great care has been taken to provide a seamless transition path for certified Nutrition Educators to continue into the Nutrition Consultant program. In addition, Bauman College certified Nutrition Consultants who wish to enhance their skills by participating in the supervised internship program will be able to participate in the internship as a stand-alone module.

Naturally, we expect many of you to have questions.
We encourage you to talk to the Administrator at each Bauman College location or to call Marsha McLaughlin, Admissions Supervisor, at (800) 987-7530. You may also email Marsha at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Let's Play with Food!
An interactive Bauman College nutrition activity booth in Boulder

Bauman College's Boulder campus is embarking on an exciting endeavor to bring an interactive Kids for Health booth to the Boulder Farmer's Market. The booth will be a free and fun opportunity for kids of all ages to explore the market's seasonable fare while being able to interact with Bauman College graduates and students in fun and games that will impart information about the many benefits of making healthy food choices. On the flip side, the activities will simultaneously give the kids information about junk food choices that are so readily available in today's society. Kids will be able to decide for themselves what are the best choices by playing along. Parents, kids, and individuals who come by will experience the seasonal produce (The Heroes) vs. featured junk foods (The Villains). Nutrition Educators will keep the games light, fun, and full of good information.

What's In Season?

strawberry_harvest_editThis is such an exciting time of year for fresh, local produce, as many varieties of fruits and vegetables are being harvested. In Northern California and many other parts of the country, stone fruits are coming into season. Keep an eye out for freshly picked peaches, nectarines, plums, and cherries. Here are two delicious recipes, compliments of the Natural Chef Training Program: Salmon with Plum Salsa and Cinnamon Baked Peaches with Garam Masala Syrup

Recent studies have confirmed the benefits of eating organic foods. Eating local organic foods will further preserve nutrients, while at the same time sparing the earth, air, and our bodies from the toxins associated with long-distance food transport. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a powerhouse environmental organization, has an excellent local food database for all states so you will always know what your best choices are. Click HERE to access the NRDC Eat Local page and find out What's In Season near you!

Another way to guarantee fresh, local produce is to visit your Farmer's Market.Click HERE to find a Farmer's Market near you.
